Hello all. I am George, as suggested by my somewhat unoriginal username.
May I begin by commending the conceptual foundation of Machinima Synthesis, as well as the ideals that govern its operation. Given the past triumphs of Halo orientated machinima projects, one laments that a dwindling number of communities exist to foster film making of this form. Therefore, by means of the Halo Waypoint forums, it was highly encouraging to learn of Machinima Synthesis. Upon undertaking further research, I discovered this to be a community of dedicated and like minded individuals; who collectively boast a myriad of venerable attributes. Moreover, the group's membership makes all effort to support and assist the work of others.
I first encountered the machinima medium during its purported 'golden age', shortly following the advent of Halo 3. Although I derived notable enjoyment from the plethora of comedies that flourished during this period, my true passion resided with more serious, dramatic works. Given this disposition, I was introduced to The Codex (and the prequel series, The Heretic). For those unfamiliar with these Halo 2 machinimas, they may best be summarised as "action / drama epics", employing sotrytelling and cinematography of the highest order. Despite the innumerable films that have been produced in subsequent years, I regard The Codex to be the pinnacle of Halo machinima. With the possible exception of Red vs. Blue, no more ambitious nor grandiose a project has ever achieved fulfillment.
As one will likely assume, my desire to create machinima was foremost influenced by The Codex, as well as other enthralling works. I first entertained the notion of developing a machinima approximately four years ago. Given the fullness of time, my initial musings have been both expanded and refined. Although I hope to elaborate further upon my concepts in the 'Brainstorming' topic, broadly speaking I aspire to create a dramatic epic; one which denotes equal weighting to both Human and Sangheili storylines. The synopsis below shall hopefully serve to illuminate the nature of my concepts, albeit in a highly abridged manner.
"When a remote UNSC colony is swiftly occupied by Covenant forces, a contingent of Spartans is deployed to eliminate the Sangehili officers leading the occupation. However, upon their arrival, the Spartans discover themselves to be pawns in a devilish game. The Covenant seek an ancient relic, one able to further their passage towards the Great Journey. Yet the machinations of an ambitious and heretical Arbiter threaten to imperil both Human and Sangheili alike."
Despite my passion for the written word, I lack both knowledge and experience regarding machinima production. This has hitherto prevented me from transposing my concepts into a tangible project. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic that my ideas shall one day serve as the foundation of a successful machinima. A dedicated effort would be required, on the part of multiple individuals, for my musings to become a reality. Therefore, I would sincerely welcome the assistance of those with far greater knowledge in this regard than I.
As previously alluded to, my interest in machinima is foremost derived from my passion for Halo. Over the past decade, I have derived notable edification from this remarkable series of games. From exquisitely crafted Campaign missions, to engaging multiplayer encounters, Halo has long captivated me. Beyond the facets of gaming, I exhibit an interest in a myriad of scholarly fields; most notably Astronomy and Physics. Furthermore, I am an avid orator and Chess player.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks for the opportunity to participate in Machinima Synthesis. Already I have beheld some of the astounding machinimas created by your membership. It is an honour to converse with such talented and insightful individuals. Moreover, I eagerly await the opportunity to engage with the community, and contribute to its development in any manner that I may. Irrespective of how my own project progresses (if at all), I shall endeavour to aid others in their work.
Once again, thank you for establishing a community that supports both aspiring and established machinima creators.
