I've been in machinima for a long time, since the end of the Halo 2 days. I love making machinima. I love filming, I love editing, and I love releasing. But I'm having a serious problem with getting my project attention after its completion. I understand that It's difficult to get a large amount of views in a community that is, in large, dwindling, but I still see people with thousands and thousands of views while my machinima group releases films with viewcounts only in the hundreds. I don't think quality of our films is an issue either. We build detailed sets, script unique stories, and film/edit with the best of them. I'm just not seeing the value being returned in views. I can't think of anything else I can do on the matter either. I post on forums, I submit it to waypoint, I tell all my xbox live friends, but there's little I can do to improve the viewcount. I guess any advice on promoting our projects would be helpful, and thus the creation of this thread! Thanks. Halopen Films Youtube Channel: www.youtube.com/user/halopenfilms?feature=watch

Amen.
I think we all struggle with this. My group certainly does; 200-300 views on videos we spent tireless hours on over months at a time is just such an anticlimactic finish.
What worked for us for awhile was striking a deal with another channel on youtube, in our case it was Machinima Revive. They had subscribers, we had content, so we sent them our episodes with the understanding that they would make it clear that we made it, which they did.
It was a win-win until the owner of the channel seemingly lost interest. We racked up around 10,000 views on videos that got around 200 on our own channel. As it stands now, we're pretty screwed until we find another such channel to strike a deal with.
Looks like we're in the same boat now.

Looks like we're in the same boat now. I was afraid of that.

Fight the good fight, bro. I think machinima as a whole is dying, so not only are we struggling for an audience, but that audience is way smaller now than it was in '08-'09.

I am afraid that I can only sympathise with your present plight, Jonuda. It is highly lamentable that your machinima projects remain largely unheeded. I must commend the remarkable quality of your work; which boasts engaging storytelling and masterful cinematography. In truth, I believe it constitutes some of the most exceptional Halo machinima presently being produced. It is my uttermost hope that a means is found by which extraordinary work, such as your own, may be disseminated throughout the Halo community. Alas, beyond the notions already suggested, I cannot advise of a solution to this quandary.

These kind of remarks make even the lowest view counts worth every (sometimes agonizing) minute spent making machinimas. Thank you once again!
