The Machinima would be in Halo Reach or Halo 4 (Haven't really decided which yet) and would be about a small group of detectives investigating serial killers and horrifying cases while putting their own safety at risk. Risking their own lives would mean characters would be killed off regularly, so you don't really know who will be left alive after each case. It would take inspiration from the British TV show LUTHER. And would treat its characters much like the way SPOOKS treats there's.
Does anyone think such a Machinima COULD POSSIBLY WORK?

This machinima would defiantly work but it really requires careful treatment during the development stages, because a Police Drama is a very unsaturated type of machinima. If it were to be created, it needs to be made right, otherwise it could possibly kill off possible future machinimas based on Police Dramas.
As for the characters being killed off regularly, killing off a character is a difficult process. Because it's suppose to cause a emotional impact onto the viewers. It's the main reason why comedic characters are almost always the first to die off because a funny person can easily be likable by viewers and they're the easiest to write (excluding the making up jokes process). I really suggest that instead of killing off characters regularly, characters can completely change up depending on the circumstances. Such as a detective going crazy thus putting him into a mental asylum, maybe a antagonist character that get's apprehended by the Police but is given a white collar stance and possibly joins the detectives but because of this, a detective becomes paranoid making him unstable. Possibly there could even be a low level Police Officer that appears time to time but shows opposition to the detectives. A Police Drama really requires good writing, character development, and a lot of creativity(Unsaturated Machinima, you have a goldmine here).
As for the serial killers and cases, It'd be interesting if you were to connect all the cases together, forming a antagonist organization to the detectives.
If you're going to make your machinima, good luck on this.

You'd have to be really careful. Often when machinimas try to take on projects like these they fall into every cliche in the book and it turns out a mess.
That's not to say it can't be done, I'm saying It'll be tricky. Tricky but possible, and if done right it could be awesome.

I think that plotting it out and giving it a 10-15 episode life could do it justice.
Also, are we talking about a Police Drama at this point or film noir?

Defiantly still talking about the Police Drama or at least I hope we are. Then again he did mention detectives in the first post so . . .
Anyways just remarking what DiamondProductions said earlier about this idea being inspired. I really hope that it'll have a original idea and story as the base, instead of just the inspiration. There's way too many unoriginal and cliche machinimas these days that try to imitate a show or game.

On top of having a good story. It'll need a distinctive visual style, with lighting, shading, and filtering. Make it look unique.

As to the inspirational factor, I like those shows and believe they have that kind of edge that would work well for this Machinima. Of course all the content in it will be original with only little things taken from those shows, such as mood, drama, camera style etc. With killing off the characters, I think some of igotznoskittles ideas are cool and got me thinking that maybe killing off characters every 2-3 episodes would be a bad idea. Maybe playing around and messing with the established characters and picking and choosing who to kill off would be even better, huh? I also think that having a major organisation that the detectives are fighting against would in some ways work, but sometimes it may not... I would think as a viewer that having every villain linked to this organisation would seem too linear, everything would be only going one way and concentrating on the main plot line instead of having smaller stand alone psycho's here and there instead. It's always good too mix it up a little. But on the plus side, having a major Villain to always be at odds with would be awesome. Even though they face these weirdo's everyday, there will always be some one worse, kind of thing. I would love to do 10 - 15 episodes, really get in to the characters and have plenty of room to explore, ah bliss. But with that many episodes you need good twists and turns and good writing, or you could stray into the field of cliche's and all that just to fill the gap.
If you were planning a Machinima, would you plan the whole season or just the first few episodes and take it from there?

I would write an outline for the entire season. Each episode, get some character arcs down. Write what the point of the episode/story arc is. Follow it. But remember, an outline, is a guideline .
