I find I don't really have time to make them during the school semesters given that I'm always busy, then throw work on top of that.
Do any directors feel that they are busy but yet find time to fit in for machinima?

Not too often. Although I'm in high school which may be less of a stresser.
I find it helps to work one project at a time and sort out a schedule, write at ___ time, film at ___ time, bug a friend into doing ___ for you. After a while though, you develop a method of speeding things up and saving time, like trimming footage or rendering while you nap. In short, in order to make time, you have to save time.

If it's really your priority, you have to make time in my opinion. I find once you get the ball rolling, it gets much easier both in terms of motivation and finding time.
Me and my crew will usually sit down every 2 weeks and literally do as much machinimating as our bodies can physically handle. What do you know about 8 straight hours of filming until 3am?
All for the love of machinima.
